Product Review: Jamaican Mango & Lime Lock Gro

I was gifted this product by a well-meaning friend who had the best interests of my baby locs at heart. I have always wanted to try out Jamaican Mango & Lime products. This is the first I have ever used and it is called the Lock Gro.

It claims to:

– Stimulate Root Growth

– Prevent Itchy & Dry Scalp

– Strengthens Locks

– Prevents Breakage

The directions say to apply a generous amount  to twists & locks daily.

Ingredients: Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, Menthol, Castor Oil, Coloring (D&C Green #6, D&C Yellow #11)

You see the first ingredient is petrolatum which has zero moisturizing properties. That’s of no use to me.

First reaction: Quite frankly, I wasn’t very confident about this product when I opened it up to get a whiff. Its green colour reminded me a little to much of Dax.

Verdict: I’m not a fan. It gives a short-lived tingling sensation to the scalp when used but I don’t think said sensation is worth the risk of product build-up in my baby locs.

It does smell good and minty but I have to stick to my principles of using little to no petrolatum products.

I’ll be putting this product away and will only use it rarely for a shine boost when going out.
