YASS! You heard right!
I finally opened an Instagram account for my hair. I took a clue from one of my blogger friends to explore all of my interests so this was me exploring natural hair especially since I’ve always been fascinated by the movement particularly here in Nigeria. Yes, it’s been a long time coming. It’s something I should have done for a while now. I always just thought my hair wasn’t long or glamorous enough to be displayed on Instagram. About two months ago, I threw all of that out of the window and just started. The response has been great so far. It’s great to bond with fellow like minds. It’s also great to share information which is why I’ve taken it upon myself to provide resources for newbies. If I get to help just one person per week make sense of their natural hair journey, I would be fulfilled.
Secondly, I got fully involved with Naturals In The City (NITC) this year and even though we’ve evolved into a natural lifestyle meetup, natural hair will always be its foundation. So, I took up more responsibilities just be part of it and simply just do more. My duties are no longer solely relegated to registration which I’ll definitely miss. I always get to meet new people who almost always recognize me so yeah, I’ll miss that.
The highlight of my third year was modeling for Kemi Lewis. During #NITC15, she casually mentioned that she was looking for models for an upcoming photo shoot. I didn’t know when I volunteered. Actually, I remember vividly. I always loved Kemi’s work and I couldn’t wait for her to style my hair so when she said I could come, I was over the moon. I didn’t expect it. It’s been a fantastic experience. Kemi is a talented stylist and an amazing person and it’s been such a great experience working with her. This just means that I need to take extra care of my hair because Kemi can call anytime. Lol.
Other than that, there hasn’t been anything spectacular.
- I got my first trim which turned out to be a major trim and because I didn’t trim for a year.
- I did less protective styles because the weather has been soo hot. I took down my kinky twists after a week. I couldn’t take it anymore.
- I tried to dye my hair jet black with henna and indigo and it came out okay although I still need to top up.
All in all, it’s been a good year and I’m excited for what 2017 will bring.
