DIY shea lotion

As I said earlier, I’ve decided to try new things. I think I’m done exploring all the possible combinations of whipped shea butter. It’s time to take it to the next level.

I’ve always wanted to make my own body lotion. Simply because I realised my body butter wasn’t doing it (whatever it is) for my skin anymore. So, I decided to research for the simplest recipe available. You see, I don’t use preservatives of any sorts for my homemade products. So, as much as possible, I try to make my products in small batches to avoid going rancid. Life’s too short for complicated recipes.

I also knew I still wanted to add shea butter no matter how little so I modified the recipe because my dry skin cannot thrive on oils alone.

5 tsp of shea butter
1/4 cup of glycerine
1/4 cup of coconut oil
5 tsp of olive oil
20 drops of lavender essential oil

1. Heat the shea butter in a double boiler until it melts completely. Better still, heat under hot water to avoid losing its nutrients.
2. Add all the oils to the melted shea butter. Mix thoroughly.
3. Pour into a bottle or whatever medium of storage you wish.
4. It’s ready to use.

This is probably the simplest lotion recipe ever. The good thing is, I love it and it’s been serving me well. It might look overly oily but trust me, it isn’t. It disappears into your skin after application.

Feel free to add and or subtract.
