Hi there! You just stumbled upon the 2nd post of Sizzelle Hair Situation series where each of our contributors share snatches of their journey.

Enjoy!

Hair journey recap

My hair journey has gone pretty well for the past few months. I’ve been consistent with my regimen. I’m still struggling with knots but I may have to live and let live. I’ve had two professional trims since the last recap. My plan is to have a trim every 3 – 4 months.  I also attempted a wash and go which turned out pretty well.

Regimen changes

Not much to report here. My regimen is pretty much the same as the last recap. Wash, condition, style, and maintain. I’ve been trying oil rinses to help with the knots but it’s too soon to tell if it is working.

Tested new products

I’m still looking for a deep conditioner. I even tested a few of them. The African Naturalista’s conditioner I got seems to be doing a good job so far. Cantu’s deep conditioning masque is working pretty well for me too. This is surprising because I don’t tend to like products with too much shea butter.

Length check

It seems that I’ve retained a little length. I wasn’t expecting this because of all the knots and I haven’t been twisting my hair so often.

Setbacks

Nothing major has happened, thankfully.

Goals for coming months

– Use twists for a low maintenance style

– Remain consistent with my regimen.

Hair journey recap

I finally got around to the trim I intended and I took well over 6 centimetres of hair out. Sad!!! But on the bright side, my hair feels healthier. I’ve not done a length check yet.

The oils and the black tea rinse are actually helping because my breakage has reduced.

Regimen changes

I purchased Now Foods Jojoba Oil because I love the oil and it was on sale (it still is so check it out before the sale is over) in my favorite store Sizzelle (product junkie alert) and I also got the EcoStyler Gel. I recently tried it and I love the degree of sleek it gave to my hair.

Well, I recently completed my university degree but since I was extremely busy with final year exams and project I put my hair in a Ghana braid. I relaxed my hair on 10th of June 2017 which was earlier than scheduled because I had to attend my final year dinner. However, I am thinking of transitioning to texlax. Opinions?

Goals for the coming months

My goal for the next few months is to completely focus on hair growth. It is safe to say that I achieved the goals I set during the first hair situation.

Hair journey recap

Wow. 5 months goes by so fast when you’re not doing the most with your hair. It’s been five months since I decided to be adventurous and loc my hair. I have to say it’s so different from my first five months of being a loose natural. Maybe it’s because I’m much older/mature, maybe not.

I think my locs are budding quicker than I imagined but my ends aren’t quite there yet. The ideal for me would be to have perfectly rounded, blunt ends but currently mine are sticking out… 🙁

Regimen changes

I have been very active lately so instead of having more washdays, I have been doing the water-only washing in the shower. Since it’s super hot, it’s also quite convenient. I wet my hair everyday and seal the moisture with a bit of avocado oil or the Tropic Isle Living- Jamaican Black Castor Oil Hair Serum depending on how I’m feeling.

Gooood news! *insert applause* I learnt how to crochet my roots myself! Like I mentioned, I have been more active so twisting my roots for upkeep was no longer working for me as I would sweat it out quickly. I decided to go to my loctitian after 4 months to tighten my base. She did a good enough job  BUT SHE DID NOT LISTEN TO ME! IT WAS TOO TIGHT FOR COMFORT. Even when I would tell her to allow some fuzziness she insisted on it being tight.

This was the push I needed to DO IT MYSELF! Yay!

Tested new products

Haha! I’ve been too broke to try new products but I did get a small bottle of avocado oil because all the locs people are raving about it. I tried!

Setbacks

It’s getting so hot here so my hair has been super dry! Not just that, it’s almost to the point of brittleness. Sometimes, my hand-in-hair is chronic too cos my locs are fascinating to me. I think it’s time to break out my deep conditioners! Leggo!

Goals for the coming months

My goal remains the same as it was during our first hair situation report and that is to maintain a clean scalp and moisturise my baby locs until they bloom!

Until next time!
