My assessment:

General Comments: Sweet-smelling, sulfate-free, clarifying shampoo.

Pros:

  1. An all-natural product. From KinkyCurly’s website: silicone free, sulfate free, paraben free, organic, protein free, glycerin free. I’d assume this would be an advantage for those concerned about these ingredients.
  2. Sulfate-free shampoo that works as a clarifying shampoo. A lot of times,on our healthy hair journeys we feel compelled to break out our sulfateladen shampoos when it is time for a thorough cleanse – with Kinky CurlyCome Clean Shampoo, we can remain in the sulfate-free world and stillget that deep, thorough cleansing action! #doublewoop.
  3. Pleasant scent – smells like grapefruit! Not an overbearing scent at all.
  4. Shiny hair! What’s interesting is I have always noticed that after using this shampoo (and whichever conditioner), my hair is shinier and just has a more vibrant color. I owed this to the effects of a standard clarifying shampoo – but while writing this review: I saw that this shampoo is indeed pH balanced, and claims to add shine! This is in fact true! *I will write a post on the importance of a product’s pH level in achieving especially smooth and shiny hair!

Cons:

  1. Pricey
  2. Hair felt dry and stripped after use. Another friend of mine who’s got very soft, natural hair said her hair felt very stripped and squeaky clean as well — too clean, for her taste. She in fact, gifted this shampoo to me because she found it impossible to use.
  3. Misleading claim! This is definitely not gentle enough for daily use on my hair.

Summary:

Overall a promising shampoo, but it just did not stand out in my arsenal of shampoos. It dried out my hair, but didn’t cause my hair to tangle. That would have been unforgivable. I even had a brief judgment lapse and downgraded this shampoo to become my makeup brush shampoo. Then I realized how much it costs – and it has been upgraded to an infrequent use (when I need to clarify and don’t feel like using my ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo), and also to wash my half wigs and human hair weaves.

Picture Notes: In this pic, I try to provide a visual on what the shampoo looks like. It is very clear – so unless you look very closely you wouldn’t be able to see the shampoo. It is clear (not pearlized), and has an average consistency: not thick, not runny.

Repurchase?: I will definitely not repurchase. In fact, if it were gifted to me, I would decline the gift and suggest it be gifted to someone else as it is too pricey for me to have lying around or using it to wash MAC brushes.

Staple?: Nope!
