Castor oil is a carrier oil made from castor beans. It contains a lot of fatty acids and phytochemicals which are believed to offer many skin and hair benefits. According to many scientific sources, it is the only known source of a fatty acid called ricinoleic acid, an omega -9- fatty acid.
- This fatty acid nourishes the hair and is also said to kill some viruses and fungi. As these micro-organisms have been linked to some causes of hair loss, it can therefore contribute to hair growth.
- It is also said to retain moisture in the scalp thus preventing dry scalp.
Jamaican Black Castor Oil vs regular castor oil ?
- Method of processing: The main difference between Jamaican black castor oil and regular or refined castor oil is the way the oils are processed. Jamaican black castor oil is unrefined: the castor beans are roasted, ground manually and then boiled to extract the 100% pure and dark oil. The longer the beans are roasted, the more ash content is produced and ash content increases the effectiveness and potency of an oil. It has been said that Jamaican Black Castor oil is more effective than the clear pharmacy castor oil because of its high ash content.
3. Smell: Regular castor oil has a very mild odour while Jamaican black castor oil has a very strong smell, almost nutty.
