Effective Essential Oils: Benefits, Uses and Where to find them (Part 1)

Welcome back to the blog!! It’s been so long. I’m sorry I’ve been caught up with school stuff (finalist) *inserts girl in red dancing emoji*. Let’s talk essential oils!

Sometimes might think that it is quite unnecessary to apply oils to our scalps since we have glands which produce sebum however frequent washing strips the hair of its natural coat of oil causing the scalp to become dry, or flaky scalp.

Why are essential oils important?

Regular oil massages can be a part of your personal pamper sessions, your scalp will thank you for it and so will your hair. Essential oils are plant essence with medicinal properties. They are very potent and concentrated and as such should not be used directly on the scalp. It is advisable to mix a few drops in a carrier oil (coconut oil, jojoba oil, olive oil etc). So here are a few essential oils:

PATCHOULI ESSENTIAL OIL

Extracted from flower and leaves of pogostemon cablin. It has a strong musky scent and possesses anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties which can help alleviate scalp problems.

ROSEMARY ESSENTIAL OIL

Extracted from Rosmarinus officinalis. It has antioxidants that help combat premature graying and thinning of hair. It encourages blood circulation and stimulates the hair follicles. Anti-dandruff? Check! Regular use ensures healthy, strong and non-greasy hair.

CLARYSAGE ESSENTIAL OIL

Extracted from salvia sclarea, this essential oil has an attractive herbal aroma. It contains phytoestrogen which could contribute to hair growth. Also, it could be used to prevent premature balding and regulate oil production and controls dandruff.

CLOVE ESSENTIAL OIL

It is extracted from Eugenia caryophyllata tree. Clove oil has antifungal, antiseptic and anesthetic properties. Other properties include its ability to strengthen the hair from the roots and boost blood circulation in the scalp thereby promoting hair growth.

Who loves peppermint??? It has a cooling effect which allows for the rejuvenation of hair follicles thus promoting hair growth. Also, with its cleansing action this EO can open clogged pores and help to control dandruff.
