If you’ve been following me for a while now, you would have noticed that I make most if not all of my skincare products. So, I’ve decided to compile a list in case anyone is feeling inspired and desires to go that route.
1. Raw Black Soap
I’ve used two types of raw black soap and I’m currently seriously digging Natural Nigerian’s raw black soap. It’s everything and then some. I just made a facial cleanser of lemon juice and tea tree oil. #Heavenly
2. Shea butter /Cocoa butter
Shea butter used to be a staple until I found a permanent supplier of Cocoa butter. I haven’t turned back since then. My body butters have been on another level plus I have tons of scars and discolorations. It’s a win-win.
3. Sea Salt
I used brown sugar before now. But I’ve come to prefer sea salt because of the smaller particles. I also love the feel on my skin.
4. Baking soda
I use baking soda alone to exfoliate my face. It’s also an important addition to my homemade deodorant.
5. Arrowroot powder
I haven’t found any other use for arrowroot except for my deodorant.
I tried using beeswax once for a body butter but it was an epic fail. I haven’t used it since then.
7. Apple Cider Vinegar
When diluted with herbal infusions, ACV serves as a perfect toner. Guys, I barely break out!
I majorly use honey as a face wash as well as an addition to my body scrub and face masks.
I have a really dry skin which means I use lots and lots of glycerine and coconut oil for my body butters. Sweet Almond oil and Grapeseed oil serves as a perfect facial oil because of its lightweight. Sunflower oil takes a comfortable spot in my body scrub together with sea salt as well as Castor oil for the Oil Cleansing Method.
Lavender oil is easily my favorite essential oil – I put it in everything. Followed by Vitamin E oil which is a perfect antioxidant for all my products plus it’s thick and super moisturizing. Tea Tree Oil is a staple in my toner while Evening Primrose Oil and Rosemary Oil are regulars in my facial blends.
I currently use Chamomile and Rosemary infusions as my toner. Other times, Sage and Basil as an addition to a face mask.
I think I’ve been able to completely transition to a natural regimen. It’s been a gradual journey. I didn’t just switch up overnight. I needed to wean myself completely off every other regular commercial products. I’m not doing so shabby.© Copyright 2016 Ebun Oluwole, All rights Reserved. Written For: Get your Sizzelle on!
