Benefits of Jasmine Essential Oil

When I opened my first bottle of Jasmine oil, I knew I was in for a treat. I loved the flowery scent which overpowered and seized the atmosphere. This is possibly the best purchase I’ve made in recent times. Plus, I got it on sale for half the price. It doesn’t get any better than that.

So, what is Jasmine Oil? What exactly makes it tick?

Jasmine essential oil is a famous flower which is extracted from the flowers of jasmine (obviously) which has several scientific names including Jasminum Grandiflora (Royal Jasmine) and Jasminum Officinale (Common Jasmine) amongst others. This very peculiar oil has a strong and sweet yet romantic and flowery scent. Like I said earlier, it is overpowering and leaves a strong impression. I couldn’t wait to add it to my homemade deodorant. The jasmine flower has so much to offer as it is usually associated with love and romance. Aha! I knew there was something about it! But beyond all of that, it has an impressive lineup of health benefits which can be attributed to its properties. Some of which includes – antidepressant, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, antispasmodic, cicatrizant, expectorant, galactagogue, emmenagogue, parturient, sedative and uterine substance. Yup! I bet you didn’t know. Anyways, let’s explore a few and see how they are relevant to us.

  1. 1. Antiseptic

Jasmine oil is a very good antiseptic and disinfectant which helps prevents wounds from becoming septic and effectively eliminates potential infections from tetanus. When inhaled, it is known to reduce infections in the respiratory system and can relieve colds and coughs.

2. Aphrodisiac:

Apparently, it’s the aphrodisiac property in Jasmine oil that invokes the feeling of love and romance. The oil puts people in the mood for love and also enhances their libido and feelings of sexual desire. It also helps cure problems such as premature ejaculation, frigidity, impotency, and various other sexual disorders.  Aha! that explains a lot.

3. Cicatrisant:

As a cicatrizant, Jasmine oil helps fade scar marks and spots. It can also help eliminate the fat cracks that often happen in pregnant mothers. Excellent addition to my body butters and facial oil blends.

4. Expectorant

For those that have issues sleeping, Jasmine oil is a perfect tool for inducing long, restful, and undisturbed sleep even when you have a cough or cold. It provides relief from coughs by helping clear out the accumulation of phlegm in the respiratory tracts and eliminates snoring by clearing the congestion from nasal and respiratory tracts.

5. Emmenagogue

Jasmine oil is perfect for all of your menstruation issues. From giving relief to painful cramps to regulating period cycles which is a great way to balance your hormonal levels. It also helps provide relief from other problems associated with menses such as fatigue, annoyance, nausea, and mood swings.

7. Galactagogue

This amazing oil helps increase milk secretion from the breasts which makes it good for lactating mothers and their new babies. This property also helps protect from breast tumors and breast cancer. Ya heard?

8. Parturient

Just as it has emmenagogue properties, the parturient property eases the birthing process and reduces labor pains. This is particularly helpful for women who decide to have a natural birth as it makes the recovery process less painful and the post-natal period, shorter. It can strengthen contractions and shorten the time it takes to deliver a baby. Also, the presence of its antidepressant and uplifting qualities helps combat postpartum depression.
